Behind The Design: Brazil Poster

Behind The Design: Brazil 2025

Its big, it's bold, and it's Brazil in only a way that could be felt and driven by the electric atmosphere that is São Paolo. For this weeks bright burst of colour, we go behind the design on the Brazilian Race poster.

Was there a visual motif or symbol that anchored the whole design?

São Paulo is an iconic city, with a lot of culture and creativity. For this poster, I wanted to capture the atmosphere of what it is like to be in São Paulo. I am very interested in patterns, and whilst researching into the location, I came across the sidewalk design of São Paulo. That was created as part of a competition in the 1960’s, and has become iconic since. So I included it on the mural to represent the city. The mural itself is a nod to the artwork and culture of the city, I used the colours of the Brazilian flag, adding in stars to add depth to the sidewalk pattern.

Did you experiment with any new techniques or styles for this piece?

Yes, I experimented with various different ways of layering and texturing to achieve the look and feel of the mural in the background, I also looked at alternate ways of colour grading the poster along with creating varying levels of motion blur to add depth and realism to the scene.

What did this project teach you about your own style or instincts?

I would say that it taught me to always trust the process and the initial vision. Halfway through, I wasn’t sure if this was the correct direction I want to go in, but persevered and produced something that I can be proud of.
