We sat down with Lucas Ulitschnik, Graphic Designer at BWT Alpine Formula One Team, and got to understand how he pulled this one together.

What was the initial spark or idea behind this poster?

The initial idea was sparked by the main straight of the Vegas track, the special livery, wheel covers and culture of Vegas.

Did the design evolve significantly from your original idea?

Yes, originally I wanted the car in quite a dark environment lit up by neon signs, but I soon changed my mind as I felt the pink stood out much more and made it a more unique poster for Vegas. I didn’t plan for the cards either, this idea came to me when I thought I was finished with the poster. I thought it would be a good visual element to add depth and speed into the poster. And a not-so-subtle nod to the various casinos the car will blast past on the straight itself.

What did you learn from creating this poster that you’ll carry into future projects?

I continued to learn a lot more about lighting the car and using realistic references to influence the scene. I looked at actual Vegas track images of our car from last year, and noticed that the track was lit by many spotlights. I usually use a dome light and then a couple spotlights to get the car lit in a night environment, but this time I used a clone and arranged the lights as they would be on track. I think this created a much more realistic look and ended up showing off the blue with some nice highlights.
