For the final time this year, we go behind the Design with Lucas Ulitschnik, Graphic Designer at BWT Alpine Formula One Team, and learn how this race poster came together.

As the season comes to an end, I wanted to create something that feels calm and peaceful, instead of the high-energy posters we’ve had this year. I drew inspiration from Qatar, using a rose-gold colour palette to reflect its warm tones. Furthermore, I used a smooth, water-like texture to represent the surrounding sea. Finally, I included the Qatar skyline in the background to tie everything together.

Yes, I experimented with a new approach for creating the skyline. The buildings themselves are 2D, but through a lot of trial and error, I adjusted the lighting and added motion blur to make them appear as silhouettes in the background. This was challenging because the poster isn’t front-facing, and neither are the buildings, so getting the perspective and depth to feel natural took some work.

I think this season, as a team, we really nailed capturing the unique atmosphere and character of the places we have been to. We put a big emphasis on being able to tie each poster to it’s location, whether or not there was a title on it. I’ve really enjoyed being able to experiment with a variety of different techniques this year as a result.
